Delivery at Dawn | Wrap-up

This wrap-up post shares the final outcomes for Delivery at Dawn: a short film released in March 2024 which celebrated the arrival of EIP-4844 and Ethereum stewardship.

If you want to catch up on the origin and the launch, check out the links below:

It was funded by the Nouns Community, animated by The Line, & produced by Trent (Stateful Works) and Yitong (Agora).

Community Feedback

The film premiered on March 10, only a few days before the Dencun Ethereum upgrade was set to go live on March 13. Our goal was to create something that the entire Ethereum community could see their story in:

  • core devs as the crew delivering water (technology) to the town

  • Layer 2 projects, applications as co-stewards/residents of the town

  • members of the broader Ethereum community using the water to create new things

While the animation was beautiful on its own, we knew it was something special when the community feedback started rolling in:

  • Why is this this cute and heartwarming :’) Truly great work

  • Cryptocurrency: The Good Parts ⌐ ◨- ◨

  • this film goes so hard

  • this is a beautiful tribute and exceptional animation

  • Holy crap that was beautiful! I only wish it was longer so I could keep watching more

  • I went frame by frame to find all the Easter eggs in “Delivery at Dawn”

  • Not gonna lie. Got a lil emotional while watching.

  • how many times did you watch this? me: yes. The soundtrack somehow made me emotional

  • any plans for what the next animation might be? I just minted mine and would looooove if this was a continuous series. would be amazing to have one each hard fork!

  • future of cinematic distribution starts with 1 min webbies like this

  • really beautiful ! I love the music and colours. Definitely will mint it !

  • this is beautiful and a meaningful example of community-funded art production

It was also a nice surprise to see the community feature the film in other spaces:

Funding

The film could be minted on Zora for .004844 ETH, roughly $15-20 at that time. This chart from mint.fun shows interest over time:

The mint closed on April 1 - here are some numbers looking back:

  • Unique minters: 31,652

  • 200 ETH total raised

    • 27 ETH to Zora as revenue

    • 173 ETH to the underlying split contract (20/80)

      • 35 ETH to back to Nouns - tx link (Nouns fronted the production costs to pay The Line animation

        • see the original governance proposal here

        • check out Yitong’s thread breaking down the proceeds from the Nouner perspective.

    • 138 ETH to Protocol Guild - tx link

This makes the film the 11th largest contributor through the Protocol Guild mechanism!

Closing thoughts

It was an incredible project to be part of - massive thank you to everyone that worked on it, minted or otherwise helped in its success! Maybe we’ll be able to do something similar for the next fork, Pectra..? 👀

For those who work through the night
so others may play in the light
